N8-CBD & Immunity: What You Need to Know

There’s a lot of information about CBD and immunity. Some brands are advertising products that can boost immune system function. Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, has many beneficial characteristics, and the endocannabinoid system does interact with the immune system. But, past that, how accurate are these claims?

The Endocannabinoid System & Immunity

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system found in all mammals. Discovered in the 1990s, researchers know it regulates homeostasis or balance throughout the body. The ECS includes endocannabinoids, cannabinoid receptors, and enzymes to break down the receptors once their job is complete.

Because it helps maintain all body functions, such as sleep, mood, pain, and bone growth, there’s no question that it also works with the immune system to regulate tasks. N8-CBD is a phytocannabinoid or a plant-based cannabinoid. It also interacts with the ECS and helps the body maintain balance.

CBD, Immunity, and Inflammation

There are several reasons consumers purchase CBD. One of the most prevalent is as a potential anti-inflammatory. Many studies are available, and consumer reports about CBD reducing inflammation for people with a wide range of inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis and some autoimmune diseases, like osteoarthritis, IBD, Crohn’s, and ulcerative colitis. This makes sense because inflammation is the body’s natural response to injuries.

With the awareness of these properties, scientists are exploring how CBD can help with the COVID-19 outbreak.

It’s not suggesting CBD as a treatment, there are no approved medications that can treat, cure, or prevent COVID-19. However, they are looking at CBD as part of a drug cocktail to help patients.

And we can’t say they’re just rushing the studies to find answers for the current pandemic. A peer-reviewed study from the Future Medicinal Chemistry Journal in 2009 stated,

“The cannabinoid system has been shown both in vivo and in vitro to be involved in regulating the immune system through its immunomodulatory properties. Cannabinoids can either directly inhibit tumor growth or suppress inflammation and tumor angiogenesis.”

The key to the study above is in vivo and in vitro studies, which are more extensive than most research papers available for CBD and other cannabinoids.

CBD for Wellness

What hundreds of studies will tell you is the potential for CBD to improve your overall wellbeing. The cannabinoid reduces stress, relieves anxious feelings, and it can assist with a good night’s rest. Together these characteristics can improve your overall wellness. When you’re getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep nightly, exercising regularly, and not stressed out, your body is well-prepared to fight off contagions, such as viruses and infections.

The researchers are still working on unraveling all the benefits of CBD and the immune system. But they are sure that the hemp-derived phytocannabinoids are powerful wellness tools that can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
